Luxury Cars - New and Pre-owned

Cars are among the biggest investments the average joe can make. Next to a house, or some other property, an automobile requires a great deal of money and maintenance, in order to be able to serve its function of transporting people from point A to point B efficiently.

There are, however, people who acquire cars, not just because they function well, but because they look good, are from a prestigious brand, and have luxuries that few of the average cars have. People who are wealthy, affluent, and powerful, turn to luxury cars as a means to ride in luxury, while showing the world their social, financial, and personal status.

Luxury cars are automobiles in a totally different class. As the name implies, luxury cars refer to automobiles that provide an unprecedented level of luxury, composed of desirable and pleasant features that are way above being necessities. These can come in many forms, such as improved engine performance, personalized and handcrafted construction, advanced technology years ahead of the average car, the use of expensive and luxurious materials for both the interior and exterior of the car, and more.

This translates into increased costs, which is why luxury car manufacturers have a specific socio-economic target market. They cater specifically to this market, differentiating them from the average car-buying public, in order to add to the feel of being exclusive and luxurious, which is ultimately one of the main reasons why buyers would purchase luxury cars. Because there is a certain feel of pride, confidence, and self-satisfaction when driving down the road in a car that only a handful of people in the world are capable of purchasing.

A good example is to take a look at one of the most recognized luxury cars in automotive history, the Jaguar E-Type. At the time of its manufacturing, between 1961 and 1974, it had been recognized as one of the most good looking, high performance, and competitively priced cars for the luxury car market. Its perfect combination of luxury elements have made it very successful, selling over 70,000 units during its run.

70,000 may seem a high number, but considering that the average car model, such as the Honda Civic, sells on average around 200,000 units per year in the United States alone, it just goes to show that luxury cars are clearly not within everyone's reach. This sounds like the average person will never be capable of owning a luxury car.

This is not true, however. The average joe can still purchase and own a luxury car; it may still be more expensive than buying an average car, but it will definitely be within the reach of the buyer's budget. This comes in the form of used or “pre-owned” luxury cars.

The good thing about luxury cars is that many, if not all of them, have designs and stylings that are classic and timeless. As such, people who are not critical about being at the spearhead of the latest in high-end cars may be able to purchase an older and used luxury car at a much lower price and still be satisfied with owning their dream luxury car.

And pre-owned luxury cars can still prove to be good investments, because many of the luxury car manufacturers have pre-owned programs that grant owners of used luxury cars certain services and privileges that are reserved for their customers. This comes in the form of service and technical support, warranties on certain parts and components, and many more, depending on the auto manufacturer.

Obtaining a used luxury car is not that difficult, if you know where to look, and what to look for. For example, fans of Jaguar may find used or pre-owned Jaguar deals in many used car showrooms and dealerships, which sell Jaguar cars that have the necessary papers and requirements to qualify for Jaguar's pre-owned program.

People can also obtain used luxury vehicles from individual sellers; these are owners who are interested in selling their old cars for whatever reason. When this is done, however, one should always ensure that the necessary papers and requirements are given. These include receipts for past repairs and services, reports on any previous damage done to the car, any modifications and changes done to the vehicle, and a list of spare parts, if any, that have been installed. And this is very important, because many pre-owned programs will not qualify cars that have not used original equipment manufacturer (OEM) spare parts, especially if said spare parts have failed and caused further damage to the car. Also, a car's value may be decreased if aftermarket parts have been installed, instead of original ones. Knowing this may help the buyer gauge the proper price for a pre-owned luxury car, to ensure he or she is not paying more than what is needed.

In the end, whether used or brand new, a luxury car is still a luxury car, a car that will always be of a different class.

I got a steal of a deal on a 3 year old corvette, I couldn't afford one out of the showroom and saved over 30% of list price, nice tips in your article!

Pre-owned is definitely the way to go! I bought a pre-owned SUV before my daughter was born, and it had less than 30,000 miles on it and we got it for nearly half the current retail price of a new model. I was really pleased with that purchase...
