Alfa Romeo is about to celebrate its 100th birthday. The Italian automotive company was founded on June 24, 1910 by Cavaliere Ugo Stella. Their automobiles were the champions at many early car races, driven by gentlemen whose names would come to by synonymous with other high-end sports cars. Enzi Ferrari was an Alfa driver.

It hasn't been all winner's circle for Alfa Romeo. The company, which also made rode cars, was actually bombed during the second World War and had financial troubles for years. But in 1950, the Alfa Romeo 158 Alberta won the first Formula One World Championship. And their winning streak continues into the present day.

In the mid 1950s, Alfa Romeo started making smaller road vehicles. Over the years Alfa Romeo cars have built up a reputation of being stylish, as well as dependable. The modern Alfa Romeo 147 won European Car of the Year when it was introduced to the world in 2001.

If the Alfa Romeo were a person, she would have earned her SAG card long ago. Many people were introduced to the Alfa in 1967 when Dustin Hoffman's character drove the Alfa Romeo Spider in The Graduate. And James Bond films featured Alfa Romeos three times. The Spider is still a very popular model, with an expected 2013 update.

Alfa Romeo owners are very dedicated, and have started various clubs dedicated to the brand. These could be a great place to pick up on Alfa Romeo deals that are unavailable elsewhere.

We're a little early in saying so, but Happy Birthday, Alfa Romeo. Here's to another 100 years!
